NEIGHBORHOOD HOUSING SERVICES OF JAMAICA TO OFFER GRANTS TO HOMEOWNERS FOR REPAIRS IN QUEENS,BROOKLYN, AND THE BRONX

Neighborhood Housing Services of Jamaica, Inc. (NHSJ), a Queens-based not-for-profit was recently awarded funding from the New York State Affordable Housing Corporation (AHC) to administer an owner occupied rehabilitation grant program. These funds will allow NHSJ to offer owners of one- to-four family homes in Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx the opportunity to receive a grant to make needed repairs to their homes. Funding may be used for electrical, plumbing and carpentry repairs; windows, doors, hand rail and step replacement, and repairs that are health and safety related.

To be eligible for grants, applicants must own and occupy their homes and must have incomes that are 80% or less of the area median. Applicants must also be current in their real estate taxes, mortgage, water and sewer bills, and have adequate homeowner’s insurance coverage. Neighborhood Housing Services of Jamaica, Inc. (NHSJ) is a not-for-profit organization that is committed to revitalizing neighborhoods in southern Queens by offering homeownership counseling, financial management and technical assistance to low- and moderate-income residents. By providing affordable housing and creating an awareness of available resources, NHSJ motivates residents to upgrade and preserve their properties to improve the quality of community life.
