Mission Statement
Neighborhood Housing Services of Jamaica, Inc. (NHSJ) is a non-profit organization committed to preserving and revitalizing neighborhoods in Southeast Queens; offering home ownership education, counseling, financial and technical assistance to low and middle income residents. NHSJ provides affordable housing and awareness of available resources for residents to upgrade and preserve their properties to improve the quality of community life.

Who We Are

NHSJ is a multi-service counseling agency that built its reputation as a credible organization within the areas of community development. NHSJ has earned the trust of the community and elected officials. Our unique team of board members, professional counselors and managers, possess a diversified background,experience and expertise from many areas of the financial services industry, counseling, community building and real estate, and has received numerous awards in recognition for service in neighborhood revitalization. To date NHSJ has provided direct program services for more than 65,000 families.

Who We Serve
NHSJ serves local low and middle income residents; the elderly and frail, people who are at risk of homelessness or transitioning out of homelessness; youth and families; and other groups striving to become self-sufficient, NHSJ serves New York City homeowners who are victims of predatory lending. We serve children living in neighborhoods at risk of exposure to home-based health hazards. The majority of our clients live, work, or attend schools in Queens, but a number of our programs are open to participation citywide. NHSJ serves participants of diverse ethnic backgrounds.

What We Do
NHSJ programs consist of Homebuyer Counseling and Education, Disaster Case Management Services, Youth Build Foreclosure Prevention and Intervention, Legal Document Review Services, Homeowners Rehabilitation and LEAD Intervention and Prevention. Our Program includes Financial Literacy and Financial Fitness Training to help home buyers understand their financial rights and responsibilities. NHSJ Job Readiness Program provides hands-on training in home maintenance to individuals looking to pursue a career in building maintenance.
